This news can be received as both good and bad. It is good in the sense where Sanzaru Games is taking the time to work on the game to make it better than Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (Nintendo 3DS) and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U) were. Both games suffered a terrible reception, so maybe the extra time taken to polish this sequel will help and give gamers a good game to enjoy.

A delayed game for better results

SEGA says in their blog that they are trying to obtain a “stronger, more enjoyable experience” out of the game, which explains the extra time they are taking to work on it.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice was announced in June and was originally set to be released in Winter 2015. The game is going to be released for Nintendo 3DS and will be a 2.5D platformer. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks will all be playable characters, working together in order to defeat Dr. Eggman and his robot D-Fekt.

2016 is rather vague when it comes to a release date, but SEGA stays firm on the fact that the game will be available when it’s ready, no sooner.
