In the tweet, the account cryptically stated, “We solemnly swear we’re up to something good.” It followed this with a clever use of the popular “What I actually do” Internet meme, joking about Sonic’s perceived inactivity before implying that there may actually be game development in the works.
Sonic has not starred in a platformer since the poorly-received pair of Sonic Boom games released in 2014: Rise of Lyric for Wii U and Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS. Another game in the spin-off series, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, is planned for a Sept. 27th North America release.
In 2013, fans saw the release of the most recent main series Sonic game with Sonic Lost World, which garnered mixed reviews and drew some comparisons to the acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy series.
