The sequel to the next entry in the franchise is currently set to launch sometime in 2021 for the PlayStation 5, and it may or may not be called God of War: Ragnarok.

While it’s a safe bet that will be the title of Kratos and Atreus’ next adventure, Sony has not yet officially confirmed its title. The very short tease for the game can be seen in the video below, starting at the 44:07 mark.

As pointed out by GamesRadar following the reveal, both Sony and Barlog may have been teasing the existence of God of War: Ragnarok for more than a year. A pinned April 21, 2019 tweet thread from Barlog details parts of the development process for God of War, but it also seems to hide something in plain sight.

Some fans have discovered that the first letters of each tweet spell out Ragnarok.

Whatever the game ends up being called, it will be exciting to see the next part of the new God of War saga. I adored the game when I reviewed it back in 2018, saying that it was a narrative masterpiece with some pretty damn good combat sprinkled in.

Many other reviewers and players seemed to agree. God of War currently has a Metacritic Metascore of 94 and a User Score of 9.1. The game also has an OpenCritic score of 95.

It’s also possible that the next God of War could also come to the PlayStation 4, though no one has confirmed that at this point. Sony CEO Jim Ryan told the Washington Post that cross-generation availability for Sony’s near-future catalog is essential to the company because “it’s about people having a choice.”

Currently, we know that several first-party PS5 games will also be making their way to the PlayStation 4:

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Horizon: Forbidden West Sackboy: A Big Adventure

While there’s still a lot up in the air about God of War’s sequel, one thing’s for sure: we’ll be learning a lot more about it in the coming months. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on the next God War/God of War Ragnarok as we learn it.
